About MOTS-C
MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded within the mitochondrial 12S ribosomal RNA region, placing it in the emerging class of mitochondrial-derived peptides that link organelle function to systemic metabolism. Its sequence, MRWQEMGYIFYPRKLR, is conserved across species and contains motifs that interact with cellular stress and nutrient-sensing pathways, including those downstream of AMPK and folate metabolism. Preclinical studies have examined MOTS-c in models of insulin sensitivity, exercise-induced metabolic adaptation, muscle oxidative capacity, and age-related metabolic decline. Because the peptide is moderately hydrophobic and contains both methionine and tryptophan residues, it is vulnerable to oxidation during synthesis and storage; oxidized forms can lose activity while remaining difficult to detect by routine HPLC alone. Shandong Shengyuan mitigates these risks through inert-atmosphere handling, RP-HPLC purity certification at 99.4% or higher, LC-MS identity confirmation, and stability-oriented lyophilization. Offered for research use only; not intended for human or veterinary use.
